Feature Artist: Elsa

As you can see my feature artist today is very young or she might be one of our latest abstract artists! Seriously, Elsa is 2 years old. The random experimentation of Elsa does raise an interesting question- are abstract artists trying to emulate the work of a young child? Free form? Unencumbered by regulations and rules? I really don't know. But I love Elsa's choice of colours. You can see she is predominantly using vertical strokes plus a couple of attempts at circular strokes which are far more difficult to control. you can also see that she is using a wide brush which is very important at this young age allowing her to experiment with large movements. if you are buying brushes for your child to use choose a variety of wide brushes. They also like small rollers as used by house painters. Importantly Elsa is beginning to understand the importance of blocks of colour which later will form into shapes. Thank you Elsa. I am looking forward to seeing your next painting.
