Nicola Plummer

For me, England is the home of flowers. I am sure my great love of gardens and gardening stems (sorry-couldn't resist) from my English heritage. In fact my Dorset roots do come partly from gardening. My great great grandmother, daughter of a Dorset yeoman farmer ran off to Australia with the local gardener's son. So I do have a lot of soil under my fingernails which, I might add, mixes in very nicely with paint!

I would like you to meet Nicola Plummer who is a contemporary English painter who lives in Cornwall. Nicola is an enthusiastic observer of nature, probably significantly influenced at an early age by her father, a botanist, and mother, a botanical illustrator. She finds inspiration for her paintings in the surrounding Bodmin Moor and coastal areas of Cornwall. (nicolaplummer.co.uk)

*Born and brought up in Edinburgh, Nicola graduated in 1983 from Edinburgh College of Art with a B.A.Hons in Design. She worked in the Edinburgh area for a number of years before moving South.

  • 1983—1985 Worked as a design assistant in the Natural History department of the Royal Scottish Museum (now National Museum of Scotland) in Edinburgh.

  • 1985—1987 Employed by Midlothian District Council to design an interpretive display for Vogrie Country Park and House.

  • 1987—1990 Employed as a training materials designer for The Scout Association.

Since 2007 Nicola's painting has taken a new and exciting direction in the form of expressive flower paintings. These bold explosions of colour executed in acrylic paint, depict the field and hedgerow flowers of Cornwall, France and the Western Isles of Scotland.
