Patterns in Buildings

Today we turn to my favourite subject matter- buildings, brick buildings. Look for the patterns in the buildings. This is one of my very earliest paintings. I saw this arrangement of different shaped buildings when prowling around my home town Bendigo. These buildings are down Bridge Street near the Chinese Museum opposite the fernery end of Rosalind Park. Some of you might recognise the buildings.
And here is the original photo
Here is another arrangement of shapes made from buildings and rooftops. This time from a Portuguese village.

Creativity starts with being able to see patterns of shapes in the world around us. Try to take a little time to look around you. Encourage your children to look for and find the incredible shapes that make up our world. Have a go at copying some of the shapes.
