Country The Owl and the Pussycat Bovey Castle – for most of us that meant joining the crowd at 10am for falconry display. George filled in for Simon and although having the same opinion about owls - to our delight brought out Merlin - an eagle owl. Image: TheQuirkyTraveller
Country An Escape to Dartmoor In the heart of Dartmoor National Park at Bovey Castle which began life as a private house in 1890 when WH Smith (stationery store fame) purchased 5000 acres of land from the Earl of Devon who had owned the estate for the previous five centuries.
Country Paradise Comes to the Outback This is the sister painting to Cool Relief. I became hooked on salt bush and sheep but tried in this painting for a softer touch finally deciding to add much needed grass to give us hope. Original Sold. Available as a print.
Country Man of the MoMent Sunsets are fun to create. The scene could be almost anywhere. The message could be almost anywhere: climb a hill or a mountain (metaphorically is okay) stop, take off your shoes and sit down where you can take in the best view. My version of: "Don't forget to stop and smell the roses".
Country Coming Home Sunsets are fun to create and if you follow my work you will know I love to paint scenes from my homeland of Central Victoria where the miner's cottage is a dominant icon.
Country The Fence Post My favourite painting and dedicated to my love of fence posts and grass snuggling up. The idea evolved from my Central Victorian origins though the motifs occur throughout all lands. Available as a print.
Country Cool Relief I saw this shed in New Zealand and couldn't resist transporting it to salt bush country in outback New South Wales. I added the sheep to make the shed feel at home. Available as a print.
People The Irishman A very popular image which I painted twice. The stimulus came from a photo I took while travelling in Ireland when I spotted an Irishman riding his bike up a country road. Later I spied his bicycle leaning against the wall of a country hotel.
People An Irishman and his Bicycle Inspired by a scene while traveling in Ireland where I saw a man riding his bike up a hill. Later I saw his bike leaning against the wall of the local pub. I then repainted the scene as it was enjoyed so much.
Town All About the WaterMill The second of a pair of paintings depicting water mills. The idea came from an old photo of mills I took while travelling in France in the 1980s. In this painting I tried to create a sense of a community of buildings grouped around the function of running a mill.
Town Italian Village There is a wonderful beauty in the Italian buildings with the centuries of ageing on the stones. I love painting them and implying the stories the buildings could tell. Available as a print.
Country Escarpment Inspired by a workshop with John Wilson in the glorious Grampians, Victoria, Australia. Thank you John, I learnt so much. Available as a print.
Country Gold Dust This painting is a reminder of my home territory of Central Victoria and I used the stimulus of the miners' cottages around Castlemaine and Chewton for the idea. Available as a print.
People Young Love A pretty painting done as a gift for a young couple iwho are part of my “adopted” family. Having European roots they chose the non Australian setting. I chose the seaside as we all associate this with romance. Couldn’t resist including their West Highland Terriers as they are part of the family.
Town The Old Watermill The idea to paint water mills came from an old photo of mills I took while travelling in France in the 1980s. The walls are so rich with the passing of time and I had a wonderful time creating the texture. The water lilies were added to give a touch of colour.
Country English Landscape, Malmesbury, Wiltshire This painting is a reflection of my feelings about the beauty of the English countryside, In this case the glorious countryside around Malmesbury in Wiltshire, England. Available as a print.
Country Lavender, Fields the Storm I love this painting which was an attempt to show the wonderful tapestry in nature and the kaleidoscope of colour that is found along the foreshore, in this case along the coast of Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. Available as a print.
Country Wilcannia Bridge This was a birthday present for one of my “adopted” children who was born in Wilcannia and spent many years there as a young child. I hope I have captured some of her fond memories of this wonderful part of our country. I loved painting the rusty old bridge. Available as a print.
Country Tyquin House, Taradale, Victoria A gift for a family friend whose ancestors, like mine, settled in Central Victoria. Working on this image gave me a chance to paint a miner's cottage, a favourite motif which appears in many of my paintings. Available as a print.
Country Mountain Cabin Hideaway Here I tried to capture the dampness of the mountains while at the same time the gum trees guard the cabin. Probably one of my worst efforts!!
Country The Valley Here I strove to have a go at painting Belted Galloway cattle and the glorious landscape of Gippsland, Victoria provided the backdrop. Available as a print.
Country Morning This was one of those quick little paintings one does on a wet Sunday afternoon. I aimed to capture the morning in Central Victoria. It has nice reflections in the puddles from the rain and raindrops hanging on the barbed wire which I had learned to paint when creating "The Fence Post".
