The Treasures of Lerwick, Shetland, Scotland: Part Two

It is appropriate that I dedicate a whole post to the Tall Ships which sailed into the harbour at Lerwick, Shetland whilst I was there as Lerwick is a major port in the area having a thriving fishing industry, being a ferry port and supporting the off-shore oil industry through servicing the vessels.

After clambering all over the ancient ruins of Jarlshof I decided to have the afternoon on board our beautiful cruise liner Island Sky rather than visit the museum in Lerwick. I was rewarded with a sail past of several tall ships on their way to berth in the Lerwick Harbour in preparation for the Tall Ships Race 2023.

I am sorry that I don't know the names of the ships but please just enjoy the spectacle of the most beautiful manmade structure ever invented.

I could not resist showing the contrast between the old and the new style in sailing with one of the large cruise liners which are constantly circling the world in the background.

From the colour of the sails and hull I do think that this ship below is the locally owned The Swan.

Even without the sails showing, these magnificant vessels are a sight to be seen.

And as we sailed out of the Lerwick Harbour bound for our next islands Westray and Papa Westray, one of the tall ships was lit up making for a glorious sight as the evening sky darkened.
